Wayan Suji and her Siblings.

Only a few hundred meters from the Bat Cave Temple,  admired and visited by thousands of tourists and the Balinese, one family is fighting against a malignant disease that threatens their lives.

Wayan suji, 48 years, the first child in the family, was working in Denpasar as housemaid until one day she was called by his father to take care of her younger brothers and sisters. Since then she dedicates her life to help the family and takes good care of her siblings.

She already felt something wrong in her muscle since her twenties. Her hands are getting smaller followed by other muscles in her legs. Wayan Suji now has no power to lift anything anymore. Her muscles are all vanished. Only her high sense of responsibility towards her younger brothers and sister make her stand to fight the disease.

Nengah Sujini, 45 years, experienced the same thing since she was teenager. She had a normal life as a girl and had also the opportunity to work in Denpasar together with her sister Suji.
Until one day they both were called back home because Ketut Sujana was sick because his eye was stung by a wasp...

Nengah now can not walk. She must drag herself from one place to another. Her hands and feet no longer have power to move. Because of limited room in the house, she has to sleep in the veranda of their house every night

.

Ketut Sujana (43 years) was stung by a wasp in his eye which caused blindness in both eyes. The same disease also attacked him since he was a teenager. With all the efforts, he successfully completed his junior high school.

Now he can only lie down with total blindness. Although he is still able to hear and speak a few words, he is no longer able to move any part of his body. His hands and feet are getting small and totally paralyzed. He needs assistance to eat,  drink and he has to , go to toilet in bed with assistance of his brother Nengah Sujantara. He even need his his younger brother to scrath his body if he is itchy.

Wayan Sudanti (41 years) is the most fortunate among the five. After finishing junior high school she went to work in Denpasar. She is now working as a cleaning service in the Post Office Denpasar. She is married with three children, two girls and one boy. Some years ago, her husband left her for another woman and she struggles to keep her family since then. Her son will graduate from the junior high school soon and she can’t afford to continue the school to high school. Her second son lives with his father in Singaraja and her third child, a girl is being raised by a family in Denpasar.

With her situation, she is very sad to see what happened to her brothers and sisters in the village.

Nengah Sujantara, (38 years) is the youngest in the family.  He has been dedicating his life to his disable sibblings since a dozen years ago. He is also fighting against the same disease that started on the muscles of his upper arm. These arms are getting smaller and no longer able to lift heavier load.. He has difficulty to breath, which often causes sleepless night..

Nengah Sujantara is in a very difficult position. As a head of the family and the healthiest among them, he wanted to get a job to feed his family. Unfortunately he can not leave his brother and sisters alone because of their condition. He had to sell one of the two cows they used to have to fix the house which still has no doors and windows. He could not ride a motorbike and did not have a chance to enjoy his childhood..

Even though he tries to remain strong, he knew that several more years he will go through the same thing with his brother sister. If the time comes, they will all die together at the same time as no one will take care of them..

If you can feel their pain, please extend your hands to give them support. They really need help to continue their lives and  to treat the malignant diseases .
